Nigerian Maritime Agencies – Working together to Promote and Develop the Nation
Nigeria’s maritime agencies are collaborating on several projects aimed at promoting and developing the nation. Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) are working together to ensure that the cost of shipping in Nigeria is reduced with the aim of promoting the growth and development of the Maritime sector and the country at large.
There is great news – The Managing Director NPA; Hadiza Bala Usman in a recent news stated that arrangements are at an advanced stage to berth NIMASA floating Dock permanently for it to commence operations as soon as possible.
To ensure security for all anchorage areas in the country, the NPA and NIMASA are working on a project tagged ‘Deep Blue Project’ which is aimed at providing security for all the anchorage areas in the country.
NIMASA is also set to launch the NIMASA Floating Dock which would be a great revenue earner for the country and would also contribute in job creation. According to the Director-General NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh, the NIMASA Floating Dock has the capacity to employ over 300 Nigerian Youths directly.
The maritime agencies namely NPA, NIMASA, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) and National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) are also working together to start moving containers from Lagos to Onitsha using barges. This would be beneficial for many businesses and greatly reduce shipping costs.
