Easing the Cargo Transportation Process in Nigeria During the festive season – Things you should know

Nigeria is largely an import-dependent Nation. According to the latest Foreign Trade Statistics by the National Bureau of Statistics, the import component was valued at N5,381.4billion representing an increase of 33.77% in Q3, 2020 against the level recorded in Q2,2020 and 38.02% compared to Q3, 2019. The value of imports in Q3 2020 represented the highest level for any quarter since 2017. Nigeria moderately manufactures few of the products it consumes and despite collaborative efforts by the Federal Government and private institutions to increase local produce, it remains largely import dependent due to the high cost of production. However, Nigeria holds numerous opportunities to thrive if it can largely become an exporting nation.

Lagos, being the commercial capital of the country is home to two of the largest seaports in Nigeria; Lagos Port Complex and the Tin-Can Island Port. These two ports are the major gateways for importation and exportation across the country.

As previously discussed in some of our publications, the Lagos Ports face numerous challenges that greatly affects importation/exportation. To reiterate some of the pressing ones: poor road infrastructure, inadequate and poorly functioning equipment, dealing with numerous agencies, amongst others. Talking about the clearance time, it takes an average of between 7 to 14days to get your containers cleared, then about another 48 hours to get you goods out of the port. In some circumstances this could actually take months.

Its not all sour news; here’s the relieving part; having a competent logistics company is vital in navigating the process and there’s surely an easier way out for most challenging situations.

If there’s one thing we can all relate to, it is wanting a seamless and time-effective process for doing virtually anything and everything. Rather than have your goods spend hours at the Lagos Ports due to the usual congestion, why not have them transported through our barges to the Lekki Jetty and then transported to your desired location seamlessly.

Speaking of the documentation procedures and processes to get your goods cleared, trust me when I say that a simple error in the documentation procedure could greatly affect the delivery of your goods. Having an efficient logistics company handle all your customs and clearing documentation process could simply make your life a whole lot easier. This would be time and cost effective for you and your business. Our customs brokerage services would ensure your documentation processes are handled seamlessly.  For every logistics challenge you present we have a solution tailored just for you and your business.
